A headcover for putter is not just decoration – it is an important part of your golf bag. It protects your most used club head from scratches, moisture, and impacts during transport. Here you get an honest, practical guide on what to look for and which differences really matter to you.
Why use a headcover for putter?
Because your putter hits the ball on every single green and therefore deserves the most protection.
When you walk with the bag, irons, wedge and putter are close together. Without a cover, even small bumps can leave marks, especially if you are playing with a mallet-putter (the one with a large head). A good putter headcover absorbs impacts and keeps the finish nice for many seasons.
A little tip: If you have invested in a Scotty Cameron, Odyssey or Bettinardi putter, you are not only covering the club – you are taking care of an investment. At the same time, the cover makes it easier to spot your bag, especially if you choose a personalized model.
Types of putter headcovers
Let’s break it down into three types.
1. Blade cover
Fits classic, narrow putters like the Ping Anser type. They are lightweight and typically close with a magnet or velcro.
Advantage: Sleek design – takes up little space in the bag.
Disadvantage: Does not protect as tightly as a mallet model.
2. Mallet cover
For the large, more square heads. They often provide better protection around the entire head, but take up a bit more space.
Advantage: Full coverage of the entire putter head.
Disadvantage: Higher price and larger volume in the bag.
3. Center-shaft or mid-mallet
Here we are talking about hybrids – a bit between blade and mallet. There are special covers for them, but the selection is smaller. So always double-check the measurements before you order.

Materials: Leather, synthetic leather, or neoprene?
You can choose from several materials, each with its advantages.
- Genuine leather: Classic look and long lifespan. Requires a bit of care (a little leather conditioner now and then).
- Synthetic leather (PU): Water-repellent, easy to wipe clean. The most popular choice among average golfers.
- Neoprene: Very soft and flexible. Good if you often play in wet conditions or just want a practical choice.
Leather lasts the longest but costs more. PU and neoprene are cheaper and easier to keep clean.
A little tip: If you need a matching set, also check our Golf Headcovers – many choose a uniform design for the entire set for a cohesive look.
Magnet or velcro – what is best?
Magnetic closures are gaining strong popularity, and for good reason. They last longer than velcro and do not get filled with grass and sand. However, they do cost a little more.
Velcro works well on budget models and lasts a long time if you remember to clean it regularly. For those who take the putter in and out many times during the round, the magnetic closure just feels easier and more satisfying.

Price Guide – what do you get for your money?
The market spans widely:
| Price Level | Typical Material | What You Get |
|---|---|---|
| 100–200 DKK | Neoprene or PU | Basic protection and simple fit |
| 250–450 DKK | PU with magnet | Better design and longer durability |
| 500–1,000 DKK | Ægte læder | Premium look and long lifespan |
Our experience: Most golfers get the most value in the mid-range around 300–400 DKK. Here you get both quality and comfort without paying for pure luxury. Or choose used – with us in Used Golf Equipment, you get premium headcovers for a fraction of the new price.
Care and Maintenance
Do you want your putter cover to last for several seasons? Then take 2 minutes after the round.
- Wipe it with a damp cloth if it has been in rain or dew.
- Let it dry at room temperature – never on a heat source.
- Condition leather 1-2 times a year.
- Check the magnet regularly, especially if the cover has been hit.
Small habits like these significantly extend the lifespan.
Design and Personal Style
Headcovers are no longer just black with a logo. Today there are covers with humor, flags, animals, and all sorts of other designs. Some even collect special editions – especially Scotty Cameron and Swag Golf have covers that can be resold for 1,000 DKK+ on eBay.
Want to stand out? Choose a design with a bit of color. It makes the bag more personal and actually helps when you need to recognize it on the range.

Headcover for putter – new or used?
New is easy, but a used headcover can be a great buy. Many covers have only been in the bag for a few rounds and can be purchased for half price.
With us, all products are manually inspected. We take pictures of each cover so you see exactly what you are getting. All used golf equipment comes with a 14-day trial period and a 2-year warranty.

How to Choose
Let’s summarize:
- Check if you use blade or mallet (or mid-mallet).
- Choose material as needed: Leather for style and durability, PU for everyday comfort.
- Do you prefer magnet or velcro?
- Find the fit that covers the entire club head without being too tight.
- Feel free to match the style with your other covers – for example. Driver and Fairway Wood.

A few real-life examples
- Peter, who plays with a TaylorMade Spider mallet, replaced his worn neoprene cover with a magnetic PU cover. He now says it feels 'like new every time he takes the putter out'.
- Lise, a beginner with a Wilson-blade, bought a used cover for 175 kr. She saved 50% and says she is most happy that it doesn't make noise when she walks with the bag.
It's the little details that make the difference.
