Ladies driver – how to find the one that suits you
Here is everything you need to know before you choose your next ladies driver. We make it simple and concrete. The truth is that the right driver is not just about brand or price, but about how your swing speed, loft, and shaft work together.
At WePlayAgain, we help you choose right the first time – whether you are looking for your first driver, want more distance, or are looking for premium equipment at half the price.
What is a ladies driver and why is there a difference by gender?
A ladies driver is essentially a golf driver that is tailored to women's average swing speed and physique. Women generally have lower swing speeds than men, and therefore, ladies drivers typically have higher loft (10.5–12°), lighter shafts, and shorter lengths.
This makes it easier to get the ball airborne and hit the fairway more often.
In practice, this means that you get:
- A higher launch angle with more distance, even at a slower pace.
- Less risk of slice, because lighter shafts and higher loft provide more stable ball flight.
- A club that feels light and comfortable throughout the swing.
Which loft should you choose?
Let's make it easy: The loft is the angle of the clubhead, and it controls how high your ball flies.
If you swing slowly (under 70 mph, typical for beginners), then choose 10.5–12°. This gives you higher ball flight and longer carry.
If you have a moderate to high swing speed (75–90 mph), you can comfortably try 9–10.5° – it provides lower and more controlled drives.
A small tip: Many women think they need max. loft to get distance, but loft is more about matching than about “a lot or a little.” A lower loft can give you more speed if you hit the ball upward in the clubface.
Unsure? Try two different lofts – use 14 days trial to feel the difference.
The importance of the shaft – choose Ladies, Regular, or Stiff?
The flexibility of the shaft (flex) determines how energy is transferred to the ball. For ladies drivers, there are typically 3 flex levels:
| Shaft Type | Suitable for Swing Speed | Benefit |
|---|---|---|
| Ladies Flex (L) | Up to 70 mph | Helps get the ball high and straight |
| Regular (R) | 70–85 mph | Perfectly balanced between distance and control |
| Stiff (S) | 85+ mph | More precision and lower spin for faster swings |
If you have too flexible a shaft, it feels like the clubface is "hanging." Conversely, you lose distance if the shaft is too stiff.
Our advice is simple: If you are a beginner, start with Ladies Flex. If you swing quickly and have played for many years, try Regular or even Stiff – many female golfers gain extra yards from a slightly stiffer shaft.

Forgiveness vs. control – which suits you best?
A large forgiving driver helps if your shots often land a bit off-center. A more compact driver provides better control if you hit consistently.
Need help with difficult swings? Then choose a 460cc head with high MOI (moment of inertia). This means that the club twists less on mishits – thus more forgiveness. Examples: Ping G Le3 and Cobra AIR-X, both known for forgiving hard shots.
Advanced players who want to control ball flight often choose drivers with adjustable loft and weight. You can also do this with used equipment – just for a third of the new price.
See all drivers – both the forgiving ones and the more precise.
Should women always choose ladies' driver?
Not necessarily. It’s more about your swing than your gender.
Many female golfers with high swing speeds actually achieve better results with a Regular- or Stiff-flex driver, which are originally designed for men. The most important thing is that weight, length, and flex fit.
An example: A woman with an 80 mph swing speed will typically hit better with a light Regular-flex than a ladies' flex that becomes too soft.
So ask yourself: Does your current shaft feel too “whippy”? Or does the club feel heavy? Both are signs that you should try a different specification.

How to fit your ladies' driver
A good driver lasts many years – but only if you take care of it.
Remove the head after play, and always use headcover (it protects against impact in the bag). If you happen to lose the grip, you can easily buy new golf grips or replace the shaft – see our selection of driver shafts.
Small things like a clean grip and a strike-free sole actually mean a lot for the feel and stability of your swing.
Used women's drivers – good for you and the planet
At WePlayAgain, we believe in recycling with quality. All used drivers are manually inspected: we check the head, shaft, and grip – and describe wear precisely.
This means you can buy premium equipment without the premium price. Good for your wallet – and good for the planet.
Do you want to sell your old driver? You can easily do so via Sell used golf equipment or sign up for our Trade-in Event.
Our recommendations – which ladies driver suits you?
Here are three quick rules of thumb:
| Your situation | Try this type of driver | Why it makes sense |
|---|---|---|
| Beginner with a slow pace | 12° loft, Ladies Flex | Helps with high and stable shots |
| Intermediate player with moderate speed | 10.5° loft, Regular Flex | Combination of length and control |
| Fast swing (long experience) | 9.5° loft, Stiff Flex | Lower spin and more precision |
And remember – no two swings are the same. Therefore, we offer Ladies driver – here's how to find the one that suits youe and honest advice.
Don't forget to check the rest of the bag – it often makes sense to update several clubs at once:
- Fairway Wood for the long second shots.
- Hybrid as an alternative to the difficult long irons.
- Putter and Wedge & Chipper for the short game.
